Dental Crowns & Veneers

In cosmetic dentistry, crowns and veneers are popular procedures used to restore the appearance and functionality of your teeth.
Dependent upon your dental state, a dental crown or veneer may be a necessary part of cosmetic dentistry to repair damaged teeth and attain a beautiful smile via cosmetic dentistry.
While both dental crowns and veneers provide effective tooth restoration, their purpose, composition and function differs greatly. We offer both procedures and professional advice on the proper cosmetic dentistry suited to your needs.
While they share many similarities, they are applied quite differently and have important differences.
A crown is around 2mm thick and covers the entire tooth. Our cosmetic dentist will shave all around your tooth. It can be made either of Zirconium porcelain or porcelain fused to a metal alloy.
A veneer, on the other hand, is only around 1mm in thickness and is bonded only to the front surface of the existing tooth.
Our dentist will shave slightly surface of your tooth. Veneers made of E-Max porcelain. Whether you need veneers or crowns will depend on your specific situation and treatment needs.

Metal Porcelain Crowns

A dental crown is a custom-made, permanent restoration. They look like a hollow, tooth shaped “cap”, which is placed over a prepared natural tooth.
When cemented into place, crowns completely cover the entire visible portion of the tooth that lies at and above the gum line.
The main purpose of a crown is to restore strength, functionality, shape and size to a tooth, and to improve its appearance.
Situations where a crown may be needed include:
- Protect a tooth that has become weakened (for example by decay) or cracked, by holding it together and preventing it from breaking.
- Replace an old, broken or failing tooth filling.
- Restore a tooth that has already broken.
- Restoring length on worn down teeth (for example from grinding).
- Cover and support a tooth that has a large filling if there isn’t much natural tooth structure left.
- Make a cosmetic modification such as closing spaces between teeth, or reshaping or rotating teeth.
- Crowns are used to hold dental bridges in place.
- A crown is used to cover a dental implant.
Porcelain fused to metal crowns, have long been considered the metal standard for the repair of damaged teeth.
This type of design has been and continues to be the most common type of crown or bridge done in dentistry for years.
They are cast metal with a porcelain covering over it. The tooth colored ceramic is baked on top of a metal alloy base called a coping for the ultimate in strength. The metal base is thin, strong, and fits perfectly over the prepared teeth.
The baked on porcelain layer is 1.5 mm to 2 mm thick. It is fashioned to have the same anatomy and optical characteristics as a natural tooth. The porcelain layer is tough, and withstands chewing forces from the opposing teeth.
Even though the technologies used to produce Standard Metal Base Porcelain Crowns have been available for decades, these restorations are often still a good choice.
The introduction of modern porcelains allows skilled technicians to create lifelike crowns where sufficient room is available to correctly layer the porcelain.
While all-ceramic crowns and the use of CAD/CAM technology to create metal-free crowns is becoming more common, many of the procedures used to create and fit these restorations are sensitive to technique.

Zirconium Porcelain Crowns

Zirconium crowns are made from zirconium dioxide, a very durable type of metal that’s related to titanium, although it’s categorized as a type of ceramic crown. Crowns made of zirconia are becoming increasingly common, and they do offer some advantages by cosmetic dentistry.
One of the biggest advantages of zirconia is its strength and durability. Consider how much force your back teeth exert on the food that you chew.
Zirconia is the choice of many dentists for its biocompatibility, which means it’s less likely to provoke the body into producing a reaction or immunological response like inflammation.
The CEREC, or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, process uses computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology to speed up this process. The technician uses a dental milling machine to actually make the crown from a block of zirconia.
A crown that’s composed of zirconia with a layer of porcelain will give it a more natural appearance that can be easily color-matched to your surrounding teeth.
Sometimes the procedure is for health reasons, but most of the time it’s purely cosmetic.

E-Max Porcelain Crowns & Veneers

EMax Veneers are another kind of porcelain veneer. They are sometimes called E-Max laminate veneers and are crafted from lithium disilicate glass-ceramic.
This special material offers several advantages. For starters, it’s lighter and thinner than traditional dental porcelains.
This means that a comfortable fit can be achieved while removing less of the natural tooth. It’s also substantially stronger.
Its greatest asset is its somewhat translucent appearance. The semitransparent quality of E-Max crowns and veneers are a closer match to natural teeth.
E-Max Veneers and E-Max Crowns crafted from this material blend better and allow you to face the world with a smile that looks and feels natural.
Patients should come in to discuss their options and find out if veneers would be suitable for them. If not, there are many other tools we can use to give you a great smile and ensure teeth are healthy and strong.
As E-max is more translucent than zirconium they look more natural than zirconium. However, if the natural color of your teeth is on the darker side or uneven teeth, Zirconium might be a better choice for you.

E-Max Laminate Veneers

Laminate Veneers are thin laminates or shells of tooth-colored material (which can be either porcelain, ceramic or composite bonding material). They are cemented to the front surface of teeth to improve your cosmetic appearance.
Many dentists use the analogy that dental laminate Veneers are for your teeth. It’s similar like false fingernails are for your hands.
Dental Veneers have been used to create the ultimate smile makeover. With this treatment, it’s possible to transform crooked, stained, damaged teeth into a brand new, straight, white smile.
Usually, they require a 0.3 mm preparation of teeth. Laminated veneers allow light to pass through them, due to being thin and not consisting of any metal.
In this manner, they seem just like natural teeth, and their aesthetic appearance is very successful. If personalized color correction and model studies are done, a totally natural appearance is assured
One of the most important recent innovations in cosmetic dentistry is the improved techniques and technology for adhering porcelain veneers to the teeth.
The strength of bonding between a porcelain laminate veneer and the tooth surface results in physical properties similar to natural tooth enamel. In addition, the advanced ceramic technology used for the veneers perfectly fits the translucency of natural teeth.
They do not change color due to tea, coffee or smoking.
You will choose your veneer color from our color chart with your dentist on your first appointment.
Porcelain laminate veneers do not require any special care and can be successfully maintained following good dental hygiene practices such as brushing, flossing and regular visits to the dentist for check-ups and cleaning.
You need to tell our dental team the result that you are trying to achieve.
Our cosmetic dentistry team will examine your dental photos to make sure dental veneers are right for you and discuss the procedure and some of its limits.

Night Guard (Gum Shield)

If you’re waking up each morning with achy, sensitive teeth or a sore jaw, you could be grinding, or clenching your teeth while you sleep (or during the day) are all possible manifestations of Bruxism.
Aside from wearing your teeth down, bruxism suffers often wake up in the morning with pain in their jaw and headaches as a result of the pressure they are exerting on the surfaces of your teeth.
If your dentist has indicated you are grinding, clenching, clacking your teeth and wearing them down in the process, they have likely suggested wearing a night guard while sleeping or during the day.
Night guards can protect your teeth from wear, gum irritation, enamel damage, and jaw pain. Also, night guard will protect your dental crowns or dental veneers to damage them.
After your cosmetic dental treatment, we will definitely suggest you to wear your night guard when you go to sleep every night.
We will take an impressions after your dental crowns or dental veneers cemented and prepare your night guard. An effective mouth guard is long-lasting, easy to clean, comfortable, and should not interfere with one’s breathing or speech.
Absolute protection with the Guard
Dental Bridge

A bridge permanently replaces missing teeth with false teeth. The bridge is attached to the teeth on either side of the gap. Bridges are usually made of porcelain or metal, a mixture of the two, or Zirconium.
Dental bridges can help restore the smile and avoid someone feeling self-conscious about having missing teeth. Filling in the gap left by missing teeth is also important. Because, if the gap is not filled, the surrounding teeth might lean into the gap over time and change the way your bites.
First, our dentist will examine your mouth and ensure any tooth decay or gum disease is treated. We will take an x-ray and take measurements of the teeth and mouth.
To prepare for a dental bridge, our dentist will usually file down the two healthy teeth on either side of the gap. Our dentist will then take an impressions to make the bridge.
The permanent bridge is put in place when ready, and usually attached to the surrounding healthy teeth with dental cement.
You will be given a temporary bridge while waiting for your permanent bridge to be ready. If so, that is taken out once your permanent bridge has been prepared. You’ll need to brush your bridge and floss, as is usually recommended for natural teeth. Regular visits to your dentist are also important.
